Let me tell you a little more about my middle child, A. She loves to cook. And oh how she loves to bake. This little chicky has been baking muffins from memory since she was 4 years old. Banana muffins. Hands down the absolute favorite in our house. My sweetest memories of her are blond little curls bobbing through the kitchen.
Let me tell you a little story about banana muffins.
She was such a little helper. Right from the start some of her first words were “help you, help you”. Spoken in such a high decibel that every dog in the neighborhood started howling. No joke. And there was only one volume. Loud. She’s still loud but we’re working on that.
Ok, back to the story. When this little muffin was about 3 and learning to make muffins, her first job was to mash the bananas. And mash them she did. So well. It was unbelievable how well she mashed. They were so smooth. I thought we had a child prodigy on our hands.
There we were. The little fighter was sleeping. Hallelujah, she was asleep. Can I get an amen from all the mummas of beautiful little fighters? We were making muffins, enjoying some one on one time. She bounced off to mash her bananas and I gathered up everything else.
And that’s when I discovered her secret. I’m going to share it with you so that you never have to suffer from lumpy banana muffins again. You want to know what she was doing? How such a small child could mash bananas so well.
She chewed them up.
No lie. She was taking mouthfuls, chewing them up and spitting them into the bowl. Just like that. I could have died. How many people had we given pre-chewed banana muffins to? Are you one of them? I’m sorry. Can we make it up to you? Would you like a batch of muffins? We still make them. Probably once a week but we use a fork to mash.
